Melrose Abbey

Description

The original image is a photograph I took years ago, then developed in b/w from the negative (remember those?) so I had to do a bit of additional research to find out what colour the abbey was. Hope I've got it right.

It's a wonderful place, Melrose - one of my favourite places along the borders.  Really shows how culture and art flourished in medieval Scotland before been overrun by Presbyterians and the English.

As it was the resting place of Robert the Bruce, the English utterly destroyed Melrose, leaving only ruins. I think it's now the grave site of Sir Douglas Haig, commander of the British army during WWI. There's some pathos in that.

Pencil, ink, whiteout, paint and digital.
